Fooood, Glorious Food

I recently made a trip North to Malaysia's prominent food capital, Penang.
What supposed to be a holiday turned out to be a hectic and tight scheduled trip due to a wedding in which I have to attend and I had to survey my accommodation etc etc.
Still, I managed to savour some of Penang's best local fare.

First on my itinerary was the Famous Teochew Chendol on Penang Road. It's so good that it attract customers all the way from Singapore.

The small stall with a huge turnover.

Don't be fooled by a stall opposite it which carriesa somewhat similar sign with the former stall. It's a fake. lol.

Immitation, Pirated.... FAKE

Next was Assam Laksa. Situated also along Penang Road in Joo Hooi Cafe. They're quite con too as they sold me plain vegetable and soup when their noodles ran out. But their laksa is simply the best.

Doesn't really look appetizing rite?

During the night, it's always a must to visit Penang's food court.
I went to this 'cross breed' between some 2 prominent hotels. lol.

What I found rather interesting was they had octopus under their "Loh Bak" menu.

They amazingly taste great and their sauce is better than the Japanese Shoyu.

A recently renovated New World Park at Swatow Lane has also much to offer.

A Nyonya otak-otak

and the unique curry mee

and the refreshing Ais Kacang

and the sumptuous Popiah

And the 'oily' Char Koay Teow. lol

The new hawker centre is remarkably clean and spotless. I almost thought that I was in Singapore.

Coincidentally, it was the Winter Solstice Festival when I was in Penang. So my grandma made "Tong Yuen" specially for me. hehe

It's basically just flour made into tiny balls and boiled with syrup.

And the I forgot what's the name place which serves not-to-bad Mamak Mee Goreng.

Every trip to Penang won't be complete without sampling the local Rojak. As its name suggest, it's a mixture of fruits and nuts and black sauce, all mixed up in a disorderly manner.

Last but not least is a "Sar Hor Fun" stall, which is located not too far from the hotel I stayed in, Paradise Sandy Bay. I seriously hate "Sar Hor Fun" but this one is an exception.

After blogging about this, I'm even more excited with the fact that I'm spending 3 months in Penang. hehe
